Configuring Advanced Web Search

Advanced Web Search has more options to customize your research process.

Basic Settings

Limit

What it does: Number of Google search results to retrieve

Range: 10 to 100 results
Default: 10 results
Recommendation: Use 10-20 for most research tasks

Additional Search Terms (Optional)

What it does: Same as Standard Web Search - refines your search Examples:

site:edu - Only search educational institutions
filetype:pdf - Find PDF documents
2024..2025 - Search within a date range

Web Scraping Settings

These options appear when you enable page scraping.

Scrape Result Pages

What it does: Downloads and analyzes the full content of search result pages

Default: Off (disabled)
When to enable: When you need more than just search result snippets
Impact: Makes searches slower but provides deeper information

Maximum Scraped Pages

What it does: Limits how many pages to scrape (only visible when scraping is enabled)

Range: 1 to 100 pages
Default: 5 pages
Recommendation: Use 5-10 pages for balance between depth and speed
Important: More pages = slower search, but more comprehensive results

How to enable Standard Web Search

Using the Playground

Navigate to the Playground page
Select your preferred AI model from the dropdown
Look for the globe icon (🌐) in the message input area
Click the globe icon to turn on Web Search
- Active state: The icon appears darker
- Inactive state: The icon appears lighter
Type your question in the message box
Click Send or press Enter Example conversation:

You: What are the latest developments in renewable energy? [Globe icon enabled]

Teammate: [Searches the web and provides current information about recent renewable energy advancements]

Using the Teammate Builder

If you want to create an Teammate that always has web search capabilities:

Open the Teammate Builder

Drag a "Web Search" tool from the Tools section onto the canvas

Connect the Web Search tool to your Teammate node

Configure the tool settings (see below)

Building Your First Teammate

Getting Started

Navigate to app.buildworkforce.ai and log in.
Select Teammates from the side panel to navigate to the Teammates page
Click “Add New” in the top-right corner

Then, press Create New. In the future, you can select a template based on your use case.

Teammate Model

Click teammate model. In the dropdown, the right will show a panel below “Configure Teammate Model”
Select a Model Name. Model names starting with “Azure” are hosted on a secure Azure instance and are suitable for Unclassified company confidential matters. Model names starting with “OpenAI” use an OpenAI API, and thus are suitable for unclassified non-company confidential uses.

To get access to models of different providers remove OpenAI Assistant Agent using trash icon. Choose ‘Basic Agent’

Instruction Template

Prompt Template: Add instructions to be passed in every time a user passes in an input to the teammate. Reference the input with {{question}}. This is often used for instructions about how to process the user’s input.
