Building Your First Teammate

Getting Started

Navigate to app.buildworkforce.ai and log in.
Select Teammates from the side panel to navigate to the Teammates page
Click “Add New” in the top-right corner

Then, press Create New. In the future, you can select a template based on your use case.

Teammate Model

Click teammate model. In the dropdown, the right will show a panel below “Configure Teammate Model”
Select a Model Name. Model names starting with “Azure” are hosted on a secure Azure instance and are suitable for Unclassified company confidential matters. Model names starting with “OpenAI” use an OpenAI API, and thus are suitable for unclassified non-company confidential uses.

To get access to models of different providers remove OpenAI Assistant Agent using trash icon. Choose ‘Basic Agent’

Instruction Template

Prompt Template: Add instructions to be passed in every time a user passes in an input to the teammate. Reference the input with {{question}}. This is often used for instructions about how to process the user’s input.

What are Native Tools?

Native Tools are pre-built capabilities that you can add to your Teammates to extend their functionality. These tools enable your AI agents to perform specific actions like generating images, creating documents, performing calculations, searching the web, and executing custom code. Think of it as: A toolbox of ready-to-use functions that make your Teammates more powerful without requiring any coding or technical setup.

How to add Native Tools to your Teammate

Open your Teammate in the Teammate Builder
Navigate to the Tools section
Click "+Add"
Browse the available Native Tools
Click on a tool to add it to your Teammate
Configure the tool settings (if applicable)
Save your Teammate

Creating Teammates in Playground

What is Playground?

Playground is a simplified chat interface that instantly creates AI Teammates as you start conversations. The moment you send your first message, a new Teammate is automatically created and saved—no setup required. Think of it as: A quick-start environment where every conversation automatically becomes a Teammate you can return to or enhance later.

How to access Playground

Navigate to Playground Page from Menu or by link https://app.buildworkforce.ai/playground
You'll see a clean chat window ready for your first message

What happens when you send your first message

The moment you click Send:

A new Teammate is automatically created in the background
The Teammate is named using the first characters of your prompt
A unique URL is generated using the chat ID so you can return to this conversation
The conversation is saved and appears in your Teammates list Example:

You type: "Help me analyze sales data for Q4"
You click Send
A Teammate is instantly created named: "Help me analyze sales data"
You can now continue chatting with this Teammate No manual setup needed—just start talking!
